My Professional Experience:
I have worked in education for the last 30 years, gathering a wealth of valuable experience as an Educational and Child Psychologist for Bucks, as a Head of Department in a state secondary school, and as a Senior Manager in a top independent prep school where I specialised in Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND). I am also currently an Associate Educational Psychologist for Bucks.
My passion has always been to ensure that the needs of children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disability are identified early and effectively supported. Early identification and effective support are vital for enabling the progress of learning potential, as well as personal, social and emotional development too.
My Personal Testimony:
I have first-hand experience of the rollercoaster ride of being a parent of children with SEND.
From supporting my able yet dyslexic and dyspraxic son - who excelled at school, achieved top grades academically, won awards for his kindness and empathy, and now thrives in his career - I am certain that no limits should be placed on any child’s potential.
From caring for my severely disabled daughter – who has Tuberous Sclerosis, complex medical needs, epilepsy, severe learning difficulties, severe language and communication needs, autism, and ADHD - I have learned to be her voice and advocate at every stage of her life and to embrace a journey of challenge and adventure!
